The police has been urged to act professionally and avoid siding any party or individual in all its dealings with the public, said a PAS Central Committee member.
Mazlan Aliman , responding to a spate of life-threatening intimidations aimed at Pakatan Rakyat leaders, warned that any failure on the part of the force to deal with such matters fairly could give rise to a situation in future that police would find hard to control.
Saying there had been many police reports lodged to urge the authorities bring to book those behind acts of intimidation, Mazlan lamented the absence of any serious action.
“What is the mechanisme employed by the police to investigate and solve the case? Are the police not aware of those people who are bent on using extreme provocations?” Mazlan asked when contacted by Harakahdaily, referring to the arson attack at the house of Johor PAS commissioner Dzulkefly Ahmad early Friday, destroying his two cars and part of the ground floor of his house.
Mazlan, who is also Johor PAS deputy commissioner, questioned the absence of any speedy action on the part of the police to bring culprits to justice, including those behind the explosions during the January 9 gathering at the High Court complex in Jalan Duta and the defilement of several mosques with pig carcasses.
“Similarly, there were cases in which the homes of Pakatan Rakyat had been vandalised with red paint and their lives threatened,” he added.
Mazlan noted that acts of violence had been on the rise since the aftermath of the general election in 2008 which saw Barisan Nasional losing its two-third majority.
“Such is not the case in developed countries, where there are intellectual arguments from both competing sides with alternative policies offered to their peoples,” said Mazlan, adding that he planned to meet the Inspector General of Police Ismail Omar to discuss issues related to police investigation on recent incidents. – Harakahdaily
