KUCHING: Reports by online news portal Free Malaysia Today (FMT) that nine Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) MPs will be dropped in the next general election has riled Batang Sadong MP Nancy Shukri (photo).
Nancy yesterday expressed her disappointment over the speculation that she was among the nine to be dropped and challenged FMT and bloggers who picked up the story to name the source of the news.
Apart from Nancy, the other eight PBB MPs named by the news portal are Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim (Batang Lupar), Datuk Wahab Dollah (Igan), Datuk Michael Leo Toyad (Mukah), Datuk Dr James Dawos Mamit (Mambong), Dato Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib (Kota Samarahan), Ahmad Lai (Sibuti), Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar (Santubong) and Dato Sri Douglas Uggah Embas (Betong).
When asked for her comment on the report , Nancy said in a SMS: “The best thing is to ask the (BN) leadership on that matter or ask FMT (Free Malaysia Today) who gave them the information.”
Brushing off talks of moves to drop her in the next polls Nancy said: “As far as I am concerned I have been asked to do my work as usual.”
According to claims by a blog and FMT, significant hidden hands were plotting and scheming to bring the state’s current leadership down, and dropping of the nine MPs is part of that big picture.
A commentary in a blog claimed the plot also included the engineering of the crises in SPDP and SUPP that resulted in the parties splitting into factions.
There are reports from the ground that Leo, Rohani and Wan Junaidi are working hard to secure their re-nomination to defend their respective seats for the BN.
Although the reports did not name the source of the news, many political pundits did not dismiss the information off-hand and, like Nancy, would welcome words on the source of the news.
MPs like Rohani, who are not locals in their constituencies, are also facing the challenge of voters demanding that BN nominate only locals to represent them, otherwise, they would throw their support to locals who contest against BN. – Borneo Post
