Nurul Izzah Anwar’s complaint about there being 4,000 dubious voters in her constituency was never brought to the Election Commission’s (EC) attention, its chief Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof says.
“I have checked. There was no electoral roll or letter than was sent to the EC,” Aziz says in a Mingguan Malaysia report today.
He was responding to Nurul Izzah’s move to file a judicial review of the electoral roll for her constituency.
According to Nurul Izzah, there are at least three dead voters, 133 non-residents and 4,637 voters whose addresses are not specified or incomplete in her Lembah Pantai constituency.
Aziz questioned Nurul for make the statement without first checking with the EC.
“If they are indeed sincere about cleaning up the electoral roll, then come to EC and bring the electoral roll that they say contains dubious voters so the EC can check.
“But instead, they decide to go to the media and make inaccurate statements,” he is quoted as saying.
Aziz said the EC, which is named in the judicial review application, would defend itself in court. – Mkini
