Wong, who is from Selayang, said he was diagnosed with cancer in June after he started suffering from severe epigastric pain. He was referred to a public hospital.

“They only gave me some painkillers,” said the 48-year-old. “However, after two weeks, I sought a second opinion at a private hospital and was told that I had Stage 4 pancreatic cancer,” he said at his house here.

Currently seeking treatment at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, Wong said he had spent all his savings of about RM8,000 on medicine, chemotherapy and other treatment but the amount was still not enough.

“My body is weak and the pain is so intense that I cannot work,” he said, adding that doctors had given him six more months to live.

“Please, help me. My only hope is to see my children complete their studies. Their future will be ruined if they stop studying because of me,” said Wong, claiming that at one time he had no money to buy food for his family of six. They are now depending on the kindness and assistance of relatives and friends.

Wong said he planned to sell or re-mortgage the family’s house, adding that he had not paid the RM1,800 instalment for four months.

His 20-year-old daughter She Teng, a Year Three student in Diploma in Banking and Finance at Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TARC), said she was working part-time to help her parents.

Wong and his wife Chau Ngan Yin, 43, have two other sons – Wai Hong, 21, who is doing his Quantity Surveyor Diploma Course at TARC, and Chong Hwa Independent High School student Wai Keat, 15, and another three-year-old girl, She Mean.

Yesterday, social worker Alex Lee visited the family, handing over more than RM500 and foodstuff, including milk formula.

Those who wish to help can contact Lee at 016-205 2328 or his assistants Chiam Kok Hou (012-287 6738), Aaron Yap (012-677 6877) and Jonathan Lee (012-462 4369) – Star
