Facebook users want Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to urge Datuk Seri Najib Razak to step down from his position, if he were allowed to address delegates at next week’s Umno general assembly.
Citing loss of confidence in Najib’s leadership, they said the prime minister, dogged by the 1Malaysia Development Berhad and RM2.6 billion “donation” controversies, has brought disrepute and shame to the country.
This was among several suggestions posted by Muhyiddin’s followers on his Facebook page, after he asked for proposals on what he could say at the annual assembly should he be given the chance to speak.
There were more than 700 comments an hour after Muhyiddin’s posting, with many begging the former deputy prime minister to tell Umno leaders the hardships faced by Malaysians with the rise in the cost of living.
“Kami rakyat marhaen sesungguhnya amat tertindas pada waktu ini.. Dengan kos sara hidup yg makin tinggi dan penyelesaian yg diberi tidak masuk akal,” said Diela Daniela Nordin.
(We, the people, feel really oppressed at this time. With rising cost of living and answers that do not make sense.)
Another follower, Mohd Shahrin Ibrahim, said: “Sekiranya Tan Sri berpeluang berucap, tlg la sampaikan perkara yg berkenaan rintihan dan masalah rakyat. Tekanan kos sara hidup yg semakin meningkat amat membebankan kami yg hanya rakyat biasa. Kami tidak begitu cenderung memikirkan kemelut dalaman parti seperti isu 1MDB, derma politik 2.6b dan lain2. Tapi kami terpaksa bergelut untuk meneruskan kelangsungan hidup. Wajarkah kami dihukum sebegini Tan Sri?”
(If Tan Sri is allowed to speak, please talk about our struggles and problems. The pressure of the rising cost of living really is a burden, we are mere citizens. We don’t tend to think of the party’s inner struggles like the 1MDB issue, the RM2.6 billion political donation and others. But we have to fight just to keep on living. Should we be punished like this, Tan Sri?)
“Tan Sri…bantulah dan dengarlah rintihan rakyat marhaen..minta si pengubal dasar fahami betapa sengsaranya kami dengan kenaikkan hampir semua barang keperluan..terkini dengan kelulusan kenaikkan pengangkutan awam tambah membebankan..luka lama akibat GST masih belum pulih..buatlah sesuatu yang membanggakan sebagai peminpin yang betanggungjawab,” said Mohd Sulaini Wahid.
(Tan Sri, help and hear our cries. Ask those who make laws to understand how much suffering we are facing with costs of every household need rising. The latest with the increase in public transport fare adds to our burden. The old wounds from GST have still not been healed. Please do something that will make us proud, as a responsible leader.)
