JOHOR BARU: Johoreans should be proud to be a part of Bangsa Johor and not be bothered by politicians who are jealous of the concept.
Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar also reminded the people to take care of the harmonious relationship between the different races and faiths in the state.
“There might be politicians from outside of Johor who are jealous of such a concept, claiming it will only bring disunity.
“Isn’t uniting all races under one Bangsa creating unity, while political feuds create disharmony?
“Let us not be bothered by an old person who seems to have lost his mind,” he said at a tea party on Wednesday attended by 58 leaders from non-governmental organisations and associations representing the Chinese community.
Last month, the Johor Ruler strongly rebuked Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad over the former prime minister’s disapproval of the Bangsa Johor concept.
He said Dr Mahathir’s remarks reflected his complete ignorance of Johor’s history.
The event on Wednesday was held at Istana Besar’s Chinese Hall for the first time in 65 years.
It was last held in 1951 by the Johor Ruler’s great-grandfather, the late Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Abu Bakar.
Also present at the event on Wednesday was Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman and other senior state government officials. – Star Online
