KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 — Bersih 2.0 said today its local rally organisers will be filing complaints with the police against a violent threat, allegedly by counter rally organiser Datuk Jamal Yunos.

The electoral reform group’s steering committee added that the reports will be filed this week and urged the police to fully investigate them, even as Jamal has denied posting controversial statement on his Facebook page.

“The right to dissent is a primary call of Bersih 5, but this right must always be exercised without violence or harassment.

“The threat of violence directed at a group of citizens is never protected under this right and it constitutes criminal intimidation,” it said in a statement.

A September 21 Facebook posting attributed to Jamal warned that a repeat of the May 13, 1969 racial riots will occur if Bersih 2.0 goes ahead with its planned Bersih 5 rally on November 19.

Jamal who is Sungai Besar Umno division chief and leads a movement called the Red Shirts that opposes the Bersih rallies has since claimed DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng to be the person behind the posting instead, which the Opposition politician also rejected today.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has criticised the posting, labelling it seditious and promising swift and stern action. – Malay Mail
