KUALA LUMPUR: An opposition MP had a field day today, making fun of Red Shirts leader Jamal Md Yunos for his empty threats to cause trouble at the Bersih 5 rally today.
She also mocked the small number of Red Shirts supporters, compared to the thousands of Bersih 5 supporters who showed up to demand for free and fair elections as well as the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Razak.
“Where is Jamal now? Where are the Red Shirts? They all ran away,” Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin of PKR told a crowd of over 15,000, who gathered at Bersih 5’s final checkpoint outside the KLCC here, this afternoon.
She also encouraged the crowd to “boo” Jamal and his group, which they readily did.
Continuing to make Jamal the butt of her jokes, she said that if the Sungai Besar Umno division chief tried to create trouble again today, he would have suffered the same fate that befell him last weekend.
She was referring to the incident in her constituency, that saw Jamal being punched in the face when he attempted to stop the PKR lawmaker and her team from promoting the Bersih 5 rally.
“The Malaysians who came today were incredibly happy when they heard the news that Jamal had been punched.
“That was the first time (he was put in his place) as he usually goes everywhere, doing whatever he pleases.
“But when he came to Ampang, we taught him a lesson. If he comes down today, we will teach him a lesson (again).
Compared to the tens of thousands of Bersih 5 participants who showed up today, only around 3,000 Red Shirts supporters attended to hold their counter-rally.
Jamal was however unable to attend himself as he is currently in police custody after having been arrested for his involvement in last Sunday’s clash at the Ampang Point shopping mall. – FMT
