Lim Kit Siang has refuted Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s claim that Pakatan Harapan is using lies as propaganda similar to Nazi Germany.
On the contrary, the veteran DAP leader accused Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak of emulating Adolf Hitler and Joseph Goebbels tactics and telling lies.
The lies, according to him, is when Najib claimed the next general election would be a contest between Umno and DAP as well as that DAP is anti-Malay and anti-Islam, and that a nightmare would befall the Malays if Umno is defeated in the polls.
These three “big lies”, he said, fitted the definition that “if you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually believe it,” which Zahid claimed Harapan was doing.
According to Lim, the next general election would be a contest between Umno and the collective might of Harapan.
He also argued that DAP had never been anti-Malay or anti-Islam, but inclusive to all regardless of their religion or race.
He also noted that DAP and the Chinese could never dominate the government as the Malays make up more than half of the electorate and there would be no nightmare even if Umno fell.
He said the Malays are the majority and their interests would always be safeguarded.
“Najib should return to the real issues facing Malaysians, including the Malays,” he said in a media statement responding to Najib’s speech at the Umno general assembly yesterday.
“Najib studiously avoided in his policy speech, four issues of great concern to millions of ordinary Malaysians, including the overwhelming majority of the 3.5 million Umno members, the Goods and Services Tax, 1MDB scandal, the sharp decline of the Ringgit’s value, and the higher cost of living,” he added.
In a separate statement, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok claimed that Umno portrayed DAP as the main enemy of the Malays at this assembly because it is concerned about internal dissent.
“The truth is that Najib is most afraid of the political threat posed by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad , former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia. It is obvious that Najib can see the declining Malay support for himself and Umno.
“By vilifying DAP, Najib hopes to persuade Malays not to support Bersatu which will cooperate with Harapan,” she added. – Malaysiakini
