Mahdzir’s claim misleading, says church council

PETALING JAYA: The Council of Churches Malaysia says it is misleading for the Education Minister to claim that Christians and Jews are plotting to split the Malays.

Its secretary-general Rev Dr Herman Shastri (pic) said minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid’s remarks were “detrimental and divisive”.

“He shouldn’t make false allegations because this is harmful and can undermine national unity,” Herman said in a statement yesterday.

He urged Mahdzir to issue a clarification and public apology.

In a speech in Hulu Langat on Sunday, Mahdzir, who is also an Umno supreme council member, reportedly said that Christians and Jews had an agenda against the Malays.

He was reported to have said that the country’s leaders were being attacked from outside and pointed to the Sarawak Report news site, and from within.

The London-based Sarawak Report has made several allegations concerning controversial sovereign fund 1Malaysia Development Bhd and the Prime Minister . – Star
