Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tourism and Culture Minister Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz met over cendol in Kuala Kangsar today even though their planned debate in the town was postponed.
Nazri caught up with the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) entourage at Dataran Sayong Lembah this afternoon.
There, Nazri had cendol with Mahathir, who is also Bersatu chairperson, along with the entourage.
Others present were Mahathir’s wife Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali and son Mukhriz, who is also Bersatu deputy president.
The encounter was cordial throughout.
Nazri was also well received, with several Bersatu activists posing for ‘selfies’ with the minister.
Earlier today, Nazri turned up at the Sultan Azlan Shah Mara Junior Science College (MRSM), which was supposed to have been the venue for a showdown between him and Mahathir today.
Nazri had wanted a courtesy meeting with Mahathir even though the debate was not taking place there due to the Perak police refusing to grant approval.
The debate has since been rescheduled to April 7 in Shah Alam.
Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar today said the debate organisers has yet to seek approval for the debate in Shah Alam.
They are expected to debate on 1MDB, forex and Bumiputera Malaysia Finance scandals. – Malaysiakini
