Pakatan Harapan has agreed to name its parliamentary opposition leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad as advisers in its pro-tem committee.
The decision to form an 18-member Harapan pro-tem committee was made at the Harapan presidential council meeting on Monday, which was also attended by its newest member, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).
“Out of the 18 members, 16 (pro-tem members) will be equally divided among the four parties, while two special positions are given to Wan Azizah and Mahathir,” Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) communications director Khalid Samad said today.
“We have decided (to name both) Wan Azizah and Mahathir as our advisers. They will hold the same position and they are equally important,” he added.
However, he said this depended on the terms and conditions, as well as the procedures imposed by the Registrar of Socities (ROS) on the registration of the new coalition.
“We have not seen the (ROS registration) form yet. It has to depend on (the conditions written) in the form,” he added.
He said the pro-tem committee will be the joint leadership in the coalition, since it is formed by several parties.
Harapan decided on Monday to register the coalition with ROS, following the incorporation of Bersatu into its fold.
Khalid said the four parties – PKR, DAP, Amanah and Bersatu – will come back with their line-up of the candidates for the pro-tem committee at the Harapan meeting next week.
He said that Amanah has yet to officially appoint its candidates.
“But most probably, (the party will appoint) the president (Mohamad Sabu) and deputy president (Salahuddin Ayub) into the committee,” he added.
He denied that the 18-member pro-tem committee would be the shadow cabinet line-up of Harapan.
Khalid also said Harapan did not discuss its prime minister candidate to replace jailed former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim during the Monday meeting.
Meanwhile, DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke said his party has not discussed the pro-tem committee line-up as well.
“We will reveal who the four from DAP are to be appointed (into the committee),” he added.
