Dyana Sofya’s Marie Claire shoot

Dyana Sofya – in past year, the DAP politician’s fame has seen a meteoric rise. Despite losing in the Teluk Intan by-election in May last year, the political secretary to DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has become one of the most prominent young personalities gracing our political landscape.
In fact during the last Umno General Assembly, both the ruling party’s Wanita and Puteri had identified her as their major threat – singling her out during their speeches.
This is probably due to her popularity amongst youths in the country – what is most commonly agreed as the most important section of voters. This can be proven when she was invited to participate in a photo-shoot with women’s magazine Marie Claire, in a campaign called “Wake Up To A Good Cause” which aims to collect donations for the Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO). Not many politicians have been given the opportunity to do so.
However this photo-shoot has received criticism from whom else but Puteri Umno, claiming that she was exploiting her body to collect donations.
“Young women should not pose like that to attract attention, especially to collect donations,” said Puteri Umno information chief Haryaty Hamdzah to Astro Awani.
“It is a shameful act, Dyana needs to think of a more polite way to take photos in the bedroom,” she added.
Dyana took to Twitter to respone to what she thought was an absurd claim. “You can’t even see my elbow,” she Tweeted.
She then commented further: “The distasteful comments against the photos are one of the exact reasons why we are fighting to end violence against women.” – mD
